December 9, 2024
December 9, 2024 - The Beat 139 Foundation in collaboration with The Beat 139 Media are excited to celebrate the Beat the Streets Program's first successful course completion of eleven student graduates. The graduation ceremony is on Monday, December 9, 2024, at NYCHA's Drew Hamilton Community Center, located at 220 W 143rd St, New York, NY 10030 from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
The Beat 139 Foundation's mission is dedicated to empowering and uplifting our community by providing support, resources, and opportunities through innovative programs like the after-school program Beat the Streets. This program is designed to help youth in underserved communities develop valuable skills and realize their potential through podcasting.
Beat the Streets serves students aged 12 to 17 in underserved communities, offering a safe, structured environment where they can develop real-life skills. Through the program, students learn the fundamentals of podcasting, from scripting and recording to editing and publishing. They also gain hands-on experience with cameras, lighting, and editing software. By the end of the program, each student will have created their own podcast and will leave with practical skills that boost their confidence and open doors to career opportunities in media, technology, and communication.
For many of our students, access to technology is a significant barrier, so at the end of the program, we provide each student with a laptop to use for their school work and continued work on the podcast created in the program.
Special thanks to our Community Partners that share a mission.
